Rohit is the second child in a family of four who have migrated from
Nepal to Bangalore in search of a living. The father works as a security guard
in an apartment and earns about Rs.5000 per month. The mother works as a
domestic help.
The parents were not able to afford to raise both the children here and
hence sent the daughter back to Nepal where she studies and stays with her
grandparents. The family lives in a one room house situated at the apartment
basement. The children are the first in the family to attend school and Rohit
is the first to study in an English medium school.
The parents are very keen to educate their children. Rohit never misses
school and even goes to tuition in the evenings. The school fee for Rohit comes
to Rs.800 per month. Added to this would be cost for books, uniform and
admission fee which adds up to Rs.5000.
The Adhyapana trust had been
instrumental in Rohit’s admission last year by providing him with a
scholarship. This year too, the trust is providing Rohit with a partial
scholarship to ensure that his education is continued.
