Coming from a big family of six members, it has always been a struggle for Venkataraju to study. At present, he is pursuing his II PUC (12th Standard) in Commerce from a college in Bangalore. He however is committed to study further. In order to fund his education, he works at a tile showroom after college (from 2 to 8).He manages to earn Rs.1500 which he uses to help the family and continue his education.
The father works as a coolie at a rice merchant. He earns Rs.5 for each bag he transports from the warehouse to the shop. He manages to earn an average of about Rs.3500 per month. The mother works in an export company where she cleans and packs pulses bringing home a salary of about Rs.3000.
Among the siblings, two of the elder sisters have been married and stay in the village. The youngest child is physically disabled. The family income is just sufficient to take care of the daily expenses including a house rent of Rs.2000 .Venkataraju’s college fee is Rs.8300.
The Adhyapana trust has been supporting the education of Venkataraju for the past two years.This year too we have provided Venkataraju a partial scholarship that covers most of the tuition fee.
